Massachusetts Consumers May Be Affected by National Product Recalls

Additionally, over a million other GM vehicles (certain Silverados, Tahoes, Suburbans, Sierras, Yukons, and Cadillac Escalades) are the subject of a recall issued due to the temporary loss of electric power steering, which could cause the driver to have difficulty steering the vehicle and lead to an automobile accident. Owners of the subject vehicles are urged to contact the manufacturer regarding an update in their vehicles’ software.
Other Consumer Products Recalled
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) oversees recalls of household products and devices, such as electrical appliances, furniture, recreational off-highway vehicles, and toys. In the last month, recalls have been issues for an airplane toy in which rubber tires can separate (causing a choking hazard), daybeds that violate the federal mattress flammability standard, utility vehicles that could have power train hardware issues (posing a crash hazard), humidifiers that can overheat and cause a fire, and snowmobiles with hand grips that can come loose during operation (increasing a passenger’s risk of falling off and being seriously injured).
Sometimes, a product recall involves millions of products and is widely publicized, but there are also product recalls that affect only a few dozen or a few hundred products. Unless a consumer is diligent about checking for recalls on the CPSC website, these recalls can be easily missed.
